Strong elk herds in West
Texas offer excellent hunting opportunities.
The elk are all free range and there are no game fences.
These elk travel through the Glass Mountains of West Texas.
We offer 6x6 bull elk on our hunts each year.
Our bulls have consistently scored over 320 Boone & Crockett, and most will score in the 340's. This high quality hunt is comparable to more expensive hunts
available in New Mexico and Colorado.
We
conduct hunts from mid September until early February.
The best time is from mid-September to around the middle of October.
These hunts require more flexibility than our other hunts. We like to have up to one week allowing for the elk’s
migration and rough terrain. Some
hunts may be over within a day or two, but it could also take closer to five
days. Allowing this extra time
provides for a better hunt.
Airport
transportation, meals, lodging, and guides are included.
We will deliver the elk to local processors and local taxidermists.
Other arrangements can also be made prior to the hunt.
We require ½ deposit upon confirmation and the remaining balance at the
time of the kill. This is a
guaranteed hunt in which there is either a full refund or the hunt can be booked
for a later time. This is a
decision made by the hunter. The total cost of the Trophy Elk Hunt is $9,500.
There are no special permits required in Texas.
For out of state hunters a 5 day special license costing $45 will cover
the hunt.
Mule Deer
Our
Mule Deer hunt is our most sought after hunt of the year.
This hunt is only open to 10 hunters for the 2008 season.
We have followed extensive management practices over the last
twelve years. The average age of
the deer harvested in 1998 was 7.7 years, in 1999 the average age was 7.5 years,
7.0 years in 2000, and over 7.5 years again in 2001. These ages represent the older mature bucks that we offer.
We do not allow any bucks to be harvested that are less than 10 points
and the spreads must be beyond their ears.
The hunt includes one mule deer
buck, one javelina, and (varmint/ predator hunting during the day.
Meals, lodging, guides, and airport shuttle is also included.

Free
Range Aoudad Sheep Hunting
Aoudad
sheep hunting is comparable to hunting any North American wild sheep.
The Aoudad are originally from North Africa and were introduced
to West Texas in 1948.
They are now considered to be native game.
A mature ram weighs up to 350 pounds and stands just under 4
feet at the shoulder.
Average horn sizes range from 28” to 30”.
However, we take massive sets over 30” long with 12” to
14” bases each year.
Any ram over 27” should be considered trophy.
There
are few hunts offered in North America that are as challenging as a
Trophy Aoudad hunt.
Even the great state of Texas fails to offer any hunts more
challenging than this one.
The BOSS Ranch Aoudad hunt definitely ranks among the most
elite fair chase hunts available.
The trophies are grand, however the experience is by and far
the greatest reward.
Premier Aoudad Hunt $4,500
Experience
The Free Ranging Difference!
This great hunt is available anytime of the year, although October through March are the best times. The javelina is one of the best conversation pieces for the home or office. Javelinas will have an average weight of about 50 to 60 pounds. The largest we have taken weighed 82 pounds. Their teeth or tusks are the most impressive part of their body. This inexpensive hunt is great for either young or mature hunters. We allow either bow, black powder, hand gun, or rifle on our javelina hunts.

On a 12,000 acre ranch we have our share of varmints and predators. Plentiful wildlife and creates the perfect predator habitat. Badgers, Bobcats, Coyotes, Fox, Jack Rabbits galore, Mountain Lions, Raccoons, and Ring-tailed Cats are common sights. The ranch has over forty miles of roads that we will travel with a spot light and in selected areas we will use electronic or mouth calls to lure the varmints & predators. This hunt is a unique combination of day and night hunting. Most of the cats taken are called in at night and the coyotes are taken during the hours of dawn and dusk.
There are several additional properties in which we
have access. These properties
require extra time prior to the hunt for planning and preparation.
Therefore, when considering a Varmint & Predator hunt, please try to
book the hunt at least three to six months in advance.
The hunts listed below are very economical when considering the number of species available and vast number of acres that we will cover on the hunt. Please consider the phases of the moon when booking your hunt. No moon is the best hunting.

West Texas Prairie Dogs
BOSS Ranch is no longer offering Prairie Dog hunts. Although our Prairie Dog Hunting has been very limited, we are more focused on our cattle operation and do not have time to conduct the Prairie Dog hunts anymore. We do have a list of ranches that still offer prairie dog hunting throughout West Texas as well as a few outfitters. Please e-mail us and we would be glad to forward the information. Our ranching operation will continue to concentrate on our other big game hunts and raising Quality Braford Cattle. Please take a look at the other hunts and the cattle that we have to offer.
